Girls ReCode Moments
2021 Summer Camp
In the summer of 2021, Girls ReCode hosted its first virtual camp for girls grades 3-8. We had a blast with the kids with over 30 campers, teaching an introduction to web development and app development while playing tons of games!
Workshops and Academies
Every year since its founding, Girls ReCode hosts a new wave of workshops and/or academies. Workshops are 6 to 8 weeks of free virtual classes hosted teaching different coding curricula in-depth (app development, web development, java, python, etc.) Academies are classes taught after school in person at Lake Highland, teaching girls grades 5-6 how to code.
Ivey Lane Elementary School
In 2023, Girls ReCode began going to Ivey Lane Elementary School, a predominantly underprivileged school, to teach the kids about the world of computer science and the basics of coding with an introduction to Scratch, as well as entertain them with coding-related games. The students are ecstatic every time we visit and teach them something new!
2023 Girls ReCode Hacks
In March of 2023, Girls ReCode hosted an international virtual hackathon with around 90 participants for girls and other gender minorities. The hackathon was a success, raising over $3000 to award 4 teams several prizes for their projects surrounding the theme of "In honor of Women’s History Month, create a project that aims to solve a challenge/problem that women or other gender minorities face." 2023 India Workshop
This summer, Neha visited Hubli, India and was able to teach elementary and middle school students at the Rotary School a lesson on an introduction to computer science and Scratch!
